Here is a luxurious and delightful DIY Body Wash! It foams, it cleans and it moisturizes. You might ask why I make my own? Well, first of all I want to avoid chemicals. Body washes are filled with them. Second, I like to save money and third, I need a body wash that will clean as well as moisturize my dry skin. This homemade body wash checks all 3 boxes!
Most body washes contain tons of harmful chemicals like sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol, triclosan, and artificial fragrances. All of these chemicals are irritating not only to your skin but irritating to your hormones and even your organs! Your skin is your largest organ so you should never put anything on your body that you would not put in your body! All of these chemicals go directly into the blood stream. Over time they can build up and cause health issues. Making your own products is just too EASY and FUN to continue to subject yourself to harmful chemicals-in my opinion. So, let’s get started!!
- 3 cups of distilled water
- 1/4 cup Aloe Vera Gel
- 1/4 cup Olive Oil
- 1/4 cup Coconut Oil
- 1 TBSP Shea Butter
- 1 tsp. Guar Gum
- 1 cup Unscented Castile Soap
- 10 drops doTERRA Lavender Essential Oil (or doTERRA essential oil of your choice)
- Combine all ingredients in the blender EXCEPT THE CASTILE SOAP!!!
- Blend on HIGH for about 1 minute.
- Stir in Castile soap
- Pour into container.
I add the castile soap last because if you blend the soap you will end up with a huge amount of foam that will take days to go away. This recipe makes around 30 ounces. Shake before each use. It separates for a couple of days, after that mine stays mixed.
That’s it! So easy, right?!
All of these ingredients are rich. They are so yummy to the skin. By adding all the oils and butters your skin will be silky soft! You can always make an easier recipe by omitting aloe, olive oil, coconut oil and shea butter. Guar Gum is a thickening agent and gives your wash a smooth silky texture. If you don’t use guar gum your wash will be very watery. Castile soap is very concentrated so always mix it with water when using it on your skin. It can burn delicate areas. I use Dr. Bronner’s castile soap because it is organic and easy to find. You can get it in a variety of fragrances as well. One of my favorites is Sweet Almond. I love mixing wild orange essential oil and lavender with the sweet almond soap. It makes a light and invigorating scent that is wonderful for a body wash as well!
I hope you enjoyed my recipe for a rich and moisturizing body wash! Remember, becoming chemical free is easier than you think, you won’t break the bank and you’ll end up with the most decadent body care on the block!
